Position of Swedish style Swift
The easiest way to use the swift is to set it up so the axel is parallel or horizontal to the floor (->). This will not look like the ads. As the thread unwinds off the swift the thread will move to the left or right out of the way and fewer tangles will happen. If the swift is vertical (T) to the floor then the thread will roll down over other threads and cause a tangle(s) and problems. Remember parallel to the floor.
Unwinding skeins
Gently grasp one of the figure 8 tie strings between forefinger and thumb. Gently shake. Follow the tie cord though center of skein, separating the threads to the correct side of the tie cords. Insert other hand into center of skein along side of tie cord and separate hands. The center of the skein should become clean. If you feel a tight thread then find where it has crossed the tie cords and move to the correct position. Place the now open skein onto umbrella swift. Open swift until skein fits snug but not over tight. Cut the tie cords, there should be at least 3. Find the ends that are tied together and cut free. The thread that is on the top should be the one that moves freely. Check by pulling several rounds off swift if moves freely use that one to start creating the ball.
Cake or ball of tencel. Tencel is a veggie fiber and the yarn should be taken from the Outside of the ball or cake, if it is taken from the center the structure will collaspe and tangle.
